Ryan Cadrette first began playing with media studies under the tutelage of renowned author and theorist Michael Joyce as an undergraduate at Vassar College. There, he became deeply preoccupied with the movement of narrative across form. This fascination with the repetition and transformation of story continued to drive his graduate work at Concordia University in Montreal, where he read too much Roland Barthes and developed a bad habit for pestering professional cartoonists. He has spent the last few years hunting for ninja turtles in Western Massachusetts while teaching college courses in writing and video production. He is currently completing his doctoral dissertation at UMass - Amherst, a work of media historiography comparing the origins of the North American comic book industry to the new systems of comics production enabled by online platforms.
