Stefanie began her academic career in the Integral Liberal Arts Program at Saint Mary’s College of California. The core curriculum of the Integral Liberal Arts Program is drawn from the Great Books of the Western tradition, with each course structured in the Socratic method. After completing her studies at Saint Mary’s, she studied in the Post-Baccalaureate Program at Smith College.

After a brief time away from academia, Stefanie earned her Ph.D. from Iowa State University in May 2017 under the direction of Jonathan D.H. Smith. Her research is motivated by the study of quasigroups, a nonassociative algebra. While there are many exotic examples of nonassociative algebras, one does not need to look further than the integers and subtraction! A large portion of her research focus is studying the free quasigroup on a single generator and a new sequence of numbers called the Peri-Catalan numbers.
