Sailakshmi Ramgopal received her PhD in Classics from the University of Chicago in 2016 and holds a BA in Classics from Northwestern University. Her dissertation, “Romans Abroad: Associations of Roman Citizens from the Second Century BCE to the Third Century CE,” examines how contact between groups of Roman businessmen and non-Romans impacted cultural change across the ancient Mediterranean. Her research interests include Roman provincial culture and the reception of classics in British India. At Trinity, she teaches Latin and courses on ancient social history and civilization.

The recipient of a Rome Prize in 2015, Ramgopal's article “One and Many: Associations of Roman Citizens in Greece” will appear in Meletemata in 2018 and a chapter on mobility in the Roman world in A Cultural History of Western Empires in Antiquity, a volume edited by Carlos Noreña and published by Bloomsbury Academic UK.
