Per Sebastian Skardal began his academic career as an undergraduate at Boston College, where he studied mathematic and computer science. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Colorado at Boulder, specializing in nonlinear dynamics, stochastic processes and complex networks. In particular, he began studying synchronization phenomena and spatiotemporal dynamics of cardiac tissue. Sebastian then moved to Barcelona, where he spent two years as a postdoctoral research fellow in Barcelona, continuing work in similar areas as well as working on new research problems, in particular various nonlinear processes on complex networks.
Sebastian is excited to join the faculty of Trinity College as an assistant professor. He looks forward to teaching mathematics in a liberal arts environment, both as an instructor and a mentor, while continuing an active research agenda in applied mathematics and the nonlinear sciences.
