Michael Bellesiles is the author of ten books, and numerous articles. He is the only person to win both of the article-of-the-year awards from the Organization of American Historians. As a teacher for more than twenty-five years, he has consistently sought to bring the classroom into the community, serving as the founding director of an interdisciplinary Violence Studies Program that worked with public organizations to study and respond to the effects of violence as well as devoting many years to aiding veterans seeking to enter and succeed in college. After teaching for five years at Central Connecticut State University, Bellesiles is now a visiting professor of American Studies at Trinity College. His most recent books are 1877: America’s Year of Living Violently and A People’s History of the U.S. Military.
