Sofia Kalo is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.   

After graduating with a degree in Anthropology and Philosophy (B.A.) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Sofia participated in several archaeological digs in her native Albania.  While she still retains an interest in archaeology and studies of material culture, her doctoral dissertation is an ethnography of the visual art world in postsocialist Albania.
