Dr. Kranitz initially earned a B.A. in philosophy from Hamilton College, then a J.D. from Yale Law School.  After seven years as a practicing attorney, Dr. Kranitz returned to school to pursue a career as a clinical psychologist.  She earned a B.S. in psychology from the University of Washington and both an M.S. and Ph.D. from Rutgers University.  Her work at Rutgers included research in health psychology and behavioral medicine, as well as specialized training in assessment and treatment of addictive disorders.  She continued this work in her predoctoral internship and postdoctoral residency at the VA Hospital in Newington, CT.  Currently, she works as a clinician and researcher on a federally-funded study of concurrent treatment of alcohol and tobacco dependence and abuse.

Dr. Kranitz believes strongly in the value of a liberal arts education.  She places particular emphasis on developing skills in critical thinking and clear communication, and on integrating theoretical information with practical experience.
