Visiting faculty member, Susan Bogle Finnegan graduated with a B.A. in Studio Art from Smith College in 1978. She earned her M.F.A. in Painting from Hartford Art School, University of Hartford in 2007. Finnegan has been teaching in the Foundations Program at the Hartford Art School since 2001 and served as the Assistant Director of the Promenade Gallery, The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts from 2001 – 2005.  Finnegan, professionally represented by Paesaggio Fine Art, West Hartford, Connecticut since 1998, has exhibited her work throughout New England and Kentucky.  She was the founder and director of the Rhode Island Poetry Conference in 1992, has taught poetry, and has coached Varsity High School Girls’ Athletic teams.

The teaching of Studio Art provides a profound opportunity to explore, with students, the development of Vision, of Making Vision Real, and of Work Ethic. Vision includes one’s ability for attention, reflection, formulating points-of-view, and expression. Making vision real includes knowledge of formal concepts and visual language in art making, knowledge of medium, and the development of skills involved in craft. Work ethic, instilled as an idea and as a practice, is critical in any student’s development as an artist and as a person. These three categories represent my approach in establishing general and specific goals for each student within a class community.
