Professor Mordine received his B.A. from Johns Hopkins University in 1994, his M.A. from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1996, and his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 2007, all in Classics. His dissertation was entitled “Art and Artifice in the Satyricon.” Professor Mordine has taught a variety of courses at Columbia and elsewhere, including Columbia’s Core Curriculum sequence “Literature Humanities.”
Professor Mordine’s teaching is grounded in the belief that learning, both in and out of the classroom, is the shared responsibility of student and teacher. He strives to be interdisciplinary in his teaching and scholarship, to appreciate the varieties of evidence which together provide a more complete picture of the ancient world. Whatever the specific subject of the course, his goal is to develop in his students the attentive and critical skills needed to evaluate evidence and make persuasive arguments.
