Gabriella is the Postdoctoral Fellow for the Graduate Program in American Studies facilitating the American Studies Masters Capstone seminar and monthly writing groups for Masters thesis writers. Through her work with Masters students Gabriella endeavors to foster community, where conceptually individual and secluded processes of academic research and writing can become points of fellowship, debate, and dialogue.

Gabriella's ongoing research, funded by the Wenner Gren Foundation, concerns migration and border security at the U.S.-Mexico border. Rejecting conceptual divisions between practice of border security, grassroots humanitarian organizing, and experiences of undocumented migrants crossing borders, Gabriella explores the dynamic material assemblages of evidence where these intersect and entwine--where agency, victimization, power, and control are contingent and in active negotiation. Gabriella also invokes questions of historical formation in practice, how evidence is produced and erased, and how materials mediate conflict.

As an affiliated researcher at the Binational Migration Institute, Gabriella is co-authoring her first scholarly manuscript for the University of Arizona Press called, Abjectivity Politics: Investigating the deaths of undocumented migrants along the U.S.-Mexico border.
