Ms. Levana Polate is a Principal Lecturer in Modern Languages and International Studies. She joined Trinity College in 1989.
Her teaching includes Hebrew courses in all levels as well as courses in the Jewish Studies Program, “Modern Israeli Literature and Heritage” and “Modern Israeli Culture.” All her courses are cross-listed with Middle Eastern Studies.
Her scholarly interests are Israeli Literature, Israeli Culture, and the Hebrew Bible. She developed fifteen multimedia computer projects to enhance the teaching of Hebrew and Israeli Culture.
Ms. Polate incorporates the teaching of Israeli Culture and Israeli Literature such as short poems and stories in all her language classes. To emphasize vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation she uses Israeli songs and interweaves biblical stories to connect past and present. She also often brings etymology of words to illustrate some concepts of ancient Hebrews.
Ms. Polate earned her M.A. in Jewish Studies from the Hebrew College, Brookline, MA and her B.A in Hebrew Literature and Philosophy from Tel Aviv University.
