Dick Flood Educational Services

Caroline Gilbert and I are beginning our seventh year identifying teaching candidates and introducing them to elementary, middle and secondary school work. During this past summer we have met with a number of aspiring educators who present the widest range of interests, backgrounds and intentions. In the weeks ahead we will be visiting colleges to meet with members of the Class of 2010 who are choosing education as a career direction. At the same time, we continue to welcome inquiries from current and future school people who are seeking to relocate or make a career change. These past six years we have successfully placed over one hundred men and women in over forty schools, primarily throughout the northeast and middle Atlantic states, and more recently, in California and Illinois.

We are committed to serving you as both resource and mentor as you move through your job search. After an initial meeting with Caroline or me and the compilation of your materials (see below), mailings will be sent containing biographies on each of our teaching candidates to over 200 heads of school and deans of faculty. Following the initial mailing, should there be an appropriate opening, schools will contact candidates directly. In turn, we will provide the schools with any and all additional information and supporting material and act as both a conduit and liaison between the candidate and the school. Once a placement has been made we will continue to serve as mentor and resource during the first months of teaching (and further if necessary and desired by the candidate).

There is no financial obligation to DFES on the part of candidates who are seniors in college or who are enrolled in graduate school. The hiring school is assessed a fee due to DFES at the time a candidate is hired. Candidates who are currently teaching or otherwise employed are assessed a fee of $250 to engage our services.

In order to begin our work together, here is what we ask of you:
1. An interview to be conducted in person on your campus or at one of our Connecticut offices in Canaan or Salisbury
2. Candidate’s most up-to-date résumé, including contact information
3. College transcript
4. A personal statement addressing your career goals and interest in seeking work in education
5. Two professional letters of recommendation from professors, coaches, employers
6. One peer reference

The sooner you can get this material to DFES, the sooner we can begin to work on your behalf. Caroline and I stand ready to help you through this exciting process, but we can be effective only if you are willing to work with us in a timely, efficient, professional and conscientious manner. In turn, we will do all we can to place you in a teaching position which is the best match for you and the school. We look forward to hearing from you and providing our services.

Please log on to E-recruiting to RSVP.
