Aid for Aids International - LoveLife Campaign and Internship

***This program has revised their criteria since the last posting. Please see below for the most updated information.

Campaign Description:
AFAI is looking for innovative and self-motivated individuals between the ages of 18-35 to use their creativity and passion to fight HIV and AIDS across the globe. This is an opportunity for youth to participate in a competition where they can take their good ideas, implement them to help others, and have an effect on the global community.

What has not changed?
• Mission of Campaign: AFAI is still looking for the next young social entrepreneurs and is interested in hearing the ideas that applicants have to promote awareness and aid for people living with HIV and AIDS.
• Eligibility: Applicants must be fluent in English
• Criteria: LoveLife Competitors will still be judged by the same three criteria:
- Creativity
- Awareness
- Self-Sustainability
•How the winner is selected: There will be a panel of LoveLife judges, which will compose of the staff at AFAI, who will review the submitted project proposals and determine the winner of the LoveLife Campaign.
•Internship: The LoveLife Campaign will still reward the winner with a summer internship in the year of 2010 and provide him or her with a seed budget of $20,000 to implement his or her idea. The winner will also still be honored at AFAI`s Gala Event in December 2010 as a "Youth Hero". Housing and a stipend will also be provided to the intern.

The components of the internship, however, have changed significantly. Please review the changes outlined below.

The changes we have implemented:
• Eligibility: Applicants must be between 18-35
• Duration of Campaign: August 15, 2009 – April 15, 2010
• Project Proposal: All competitors must submit a project proposal that addresses the components that are outlined in the "Guideline for LoveLife Competitors". While writing the proposal, the competitor should keep the three criteria in mind.
• Internship: Two winners will be awarded with a summer internship in the year of 2010. The internship will start at the beginning of June and will conclude in mid-August. The internship will primarily take place in AFAI`s New York City office but for one week, the internships will be in a Latin America county.

Deadline to apply is April 15, 2010.

There are three components to the internship:
Educational Seminars
- Skills-Development: During the morning, interns will participate in seminars with the staff member of AFAI and other professionals to learn about the skills (i.e. marketing, grant-writing, etc) they need to successfully implement their project.
- HIV/AIDS Education: Some seminars will provide the interns with a better understanding of how the HIV virus attacks the human bodies and weaken their immune system.
"On the Ground Training"
- For one week of their internship, interns will have the opportunity to spend a week abroad with one of AFAI`s international office to see a nonprofit organization in action.
Interns` Project
- In the afternoons of their internship, interns will begin implementing the project they submitted in April. The interns will receive assistance from the LoveLife Team and the staff members of AFAI New York. The interns are expected to present their project on the last day of their internship.
