2010 PROGRAM AND SUMMER EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION

The Wilderness School provides intensive experiential programs to Connecticut youth ages thirteen to sixteen and to other children and youth with special needs. The program is supported by the State of Connecticut, Department of Children and Families (DCF) as well as a tuition fee program utilizing a significant private funding base. We are currently in our thirty-fifth year of operations.

The Wilderness School base camp is located in East Hartland, Connecticut in the north-central part of the state. The Wilderness School is a prevention, intervention and transition program intended to assist our students to develop self-esteem, internal locus of control and interpersonal skills. Wilderness School 20-day Expeditions include backpacking, a high ropes course, rock climbing, canoeing, service learning, a solo experience, a "marathon" run, and graduation, as well as small group process and individual counseling. Our student population is diverse and representative of varied ethnic and racial backgrounds.

Summer positions include:
1. Lead Instructors/Instructors/Base Camp Instructors
2. Course Directors
3. Base Camp Support Staff: Logistics Climbing Specialists, Kitchen Staff; Enrollment Staff
4. Intern Positions (unpaid)

COMPENSATION:
Instructors: $155.00 – 189.00 per day
$3,325.00 – 4,055.00 per 20-Day course;
$930.00 – 1,130.00 per 5-Day course

Base Camp Staff:
$110.00 – 142.00 per day
$2,215.00 – 2,850.00 per month
