Brian Whitehead earned his B.S. in Mathematics from Eastern Connecticut State University in 2006 and his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Connecticut in 2011. His advisor at UConn was Richard Bass, and his dissertation concerned properties of stochastic processes whose paths contain jumps at random times.

While in graduate school, Brian discovered his love of teaching math and he has taught a wide range of classes at several institutions, most recently for five years at Western New England University in Springfield, MA.  He finds his teaching is successful when he regularly asks questions to engage his classes, and when he motivates them with interesting and relevant examples.
