Michael L. Rosino is a PhD candidate in Sociology at the University of Connecticut. His areas of interest include race and ethnicity, political sociology, mass media, social movements, theory, and human rights. His research appears in Social Currents, Sociological Inquiry, Ethnic and Racial Studies, and Sociology of Race and Ethnicity. His first book, forthcoming with Routledge Press, entitled Debating the Drug War: Race, Politics, and the Media, analyzes the racial politics of debates over drug policy within mass media. He is currently completing his dissertation which focuses on how participants in progressive grassroots political parties form identities and strategies in response to political barriers, racialized boundaries, and social inequalities. As a lecturer, he strives to create an inclusive and engaging classroom environment where students develop skills in research, analysis, social empathy, collaboration, verbal communication, and writing, practice sociological thinking, gain critical insights on society, and better understand their everyday lives.
