Julie Annino began teaching Geography in 1998 at the University of Connecticut’s Avery Point Campus (UCONN).  In 2002, Julie became the first Ph.D. graduate in the Geography Department at UCONN.  While studying for her doctorate, Julie worked full-time at the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) in the Office of Engineering.  She published an article in “The Professional Geographer” based on her dissertation research which included Intelligent Transportation Systems and Travel Behavior in Connecticut.

Throughout the years, Julie has taught classes in World Regional Geography and Urban Studies/Geography at UCONN and is particularly interested in the effects of modern technology on the spatial patterns in and around cities.  Julie has travelled extensively throughout the world and brings her experiences as well as photos into her class lectures.  Julie believes that a combination of theory and real-world experience fosters critical thinking in the classroom.  One of her teaching goals is to encourage students to recognize and understand the geographic patterns in the ever-changing world.
